Intro to movement Psychology Workshop Level I & II

For the first time in Victoria, Jason Stevens will be teaching a Movement Psychology workshop in a short format rather than as part of the one-year curriculum he typically teaches. THis is an extraordinary opportunity for past students to get a refresher on this technique, or for others to experience it first hand.

Only two 3-hour courses are currently being offered: sign up for one or both.

Detailed curriculum overview and dates below.

——————-

These intro workshops will familiarize actors with the core concepts, principles, and vocabulary of Movement Psychology, providing a foundation for character development and more advanced studies into the discipline. Students will be introduced to the principle theories and terms, as well as the fundamental concepts of tempo/action/objective/ activities that are the cornerstone of this method of character creation and story development.

Intro to Movement Psychology is recommended for actors who wish to deeply understand the complexities of character building, scene study, story arc and physical activity. Students will be provided with with actionable, practical, and expedient methods to solve the performance-related challenges faced by every working actor, whether on stage or screen.

Movement Psychology is also shown to provide enormous value to those who seek to write and/or produce original material, and to those creating their own voice/story.

The workshop objectives are to give the students the necessary skills required to solve the most fundamental problems associated the building and presenting a character for an audition or a performance.

The only prerequisite of the course is to have a keen interest in storytelling. Some experience with performance or training is an asset.

Students will be required to bring a notebook and pen/pencil and must wear comfortable clothing that will not inhibit movement.

Level II is available to those who have completed Level I. Level II will put the concepts you learnt in Level I into practice in a classroom environment furthering your understanding of the work.

Level II

To sign-up please email movementpsychology101@gmail.com with your name, email, and whether you prefer Level I or II or both. I do not offer refunds, partial refunds or make-up classes.

Testimonials
”One of the only technical based coaches I trust, Jason’s movement psychology teaching provides exactly the type of training that is needed to break into the  film/tv market. Would highly recommend to actors hoping to be relevant in Vancouver casting rooms.“ Daniel Diemer,   (SACRED LIES)

Biography
Jason Stevens is a classically trained actor from the prestigious Drama Centre London, where he studied under the legendary founders Yat Malmgren and Christopher Fettes. The work was primarily based on Stanislavski’s “Method” combined with the Movement Psychology acting technique, which is rarely taught outside of the Drama Centre.

Students of Movement Psychology  include Colin Firth, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Paul Bettany, and many others. The Drama Centre primarily trained actors for the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, British Repertory companies, and for the screen.

Jason worked as an actor in London and New York for many years, and in Canada he has performed with various theatre companies in Victoria and Vancouver.  He is currently a working actor in film and television with representation in Vancouver.

Jason has been teaching classes in Movement Psychology as part of a 10 month program at the Victoria Academy of Dramatic Arts for seven years, giving actors in Canada a rare opportunity to experience a closely guarded and legendary acting technique that provides a strong basis for actors to succeed in the genre of their choice.  75% of his past students are now professionally represented.
