Event Details

A 4-week on-camera acting class for actors new to auditioning, as well as those who want to improve or refresh their technique.

Want to get more callbacks and book that role? This is the class for you.

Jason Stevens is a professional working actor (recent credits include iZombie, Arrow) and experienced acting coach and trainer who has worked and studied in London and New York. He is currently represented by KC Talent in Vancouver and a member of Actor’s Equity.

Highlights of the course include:

Practical skills:

audition room, callback, and self-tape best practices. Learn what to do, what not to do, and what the casting directors want to see in the room, but might not tell you

Performance:

Learn to build a character quickly using the material (sides) provided to you by the casting director, and respond effectively to direction in the casting session

Camera Work:
Small class sizes ensures substantial on-camera time for you. All students will work on-camera every class.

Learn from your own work:
Playback viewing sessions offer students an opportunity to learn on the spot. Students will also be sent a link to digital downloads of their work.

Career Development:
Identify the characters that are the most bookable for you and Learn how to adapt your technique for stage auditions.

Honing your audition technique is the most important thing you can do to build a career as a working actor: if you don’t get past the audition, you don’t get cast.  Improving your call-back ratio increases your odds of getting cast.

The workshop objectives are to give the students the necessary skills and confidence required to quickly build and present a memorable character in an audition environment. Often you will receive your “sides” only the day before your audition and the decisions you make about your character and approach will make or break your presentation.

The only prerequisite for this course is a passion to start booking roles. Some experience with performance or training is an asset.

Classes are on Wednesdays starting April 24 and there are two class options for students: 6:30-8:30 or 8:30-10:30. Students will be required to bring a notebook and pen/pencil and must wear comfortable clothing that will not inhibit movement.

EARLY BIRD PRICING: $185 before Friday April 19. $225 for late registrations after that date. These classes will sell out.

Secure your seat by e-transfer to movementpsychology101@gmail.com with your name, email, and whether you prefer the 6:30 or the 8:30 start time. Please note that refunds, partial refunds or make-up classes are not offered.

Biography: JASON STEVENS

Jason is a classically trained, working actor represented by KC Talent in Vancouver. Recent appearances in film and television include principal roles in Arrow, iZombie, and Timeless.

Jason trained at the prestigious Drama Centre London (UK), where fellow graduates include Colin Firth, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Paul Bettany, and many others. The work was primarily based on Stanislavski’s “Method” combined with the Movement Psychology acting technique, and is rarely available to acting students outside of the Drama Centre (which trains actors for the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, British Repertory companies, and for the screen).

In addition to his screen, stage, and television work, Jason is an accomplished acting instructor: in Victoria, he has been teaching Movement Psychology as part of an 8-month program at the Victoria Academy of Dramatic Arts for nearly a decade. Jason’s unique background and dynamic teaching style gives actors in Canada a rare opportunity to learn a closely guarded and legendary acting technique – one that is as powerful a tool for audition preparation as full performance.  Jason’s courses provide a strong basis for actors to succeed in the genre of their choice. Many of his past students are now professionally represented working actors.
